When will Ernesto Valverde
trust Coutinho and Dembele
Many would be wondering why Erneato Valverde did not play Ousmane Dembele against Atletico. The Barca manager chose a defensive squad against Atletico and it has to be admitted that it was one of the best evenings ever for the defenders. But the team definetly lacked attacking force. If it wasn't for a brilliant Messi free-kick, Barca would be under a lot of pressure. A player like Dembele would have been very effective against a team like Atletico Madrid. And this was just one of the riddles Valverde has left for us to solve. Why didn't Coutinho and Dembele start against Las Palmas, why does Coutinho keep getting substituted off even while playing well ? Let us try and answer some of these questions.
Okay, Dembele isn't good enough for every game
Ousmane Dembele has been looking shaky and the only way that problem is going to be solved is by patience. There is going to be quite some pressure on you if you are just 20 years of age and suddenly become the third most expensive player ever. So we give this round to Valverde, he tries to use Dembele slowly and that is probably the best way to get him in the top level.
Should Coutinho be rested for small games ?
Philippe Coutinho has been pretty good so far. It's safe to say that he has played well in every one of his games. But he is cup tied for the Champions League and if
he is rested for small games, he'll barely get playing time. Even though he has been playing well, he still needs to get adjusted to Spanish football. And let him make the most of what he has got for now. So I think that Ernesto Valverde will need to work on this point.
Coutinho and Dembele should play more together
The combination of Coutinho, Suarez, Messi and Dembele have played together only once. And oh, were they effective ? The quadruple combined to score six goals against a good Girona team. But the more these guys are together, the better. I doubt whether those two have even passed to each other, but once they will, trust me the Barca attack will be better than ever.
